AMERICUS, Ga. – Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, celebrated the re-opening of the historic Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel at a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 15.  The owners of the hotel, Sharad and Ila Patel, Americus mayor Barry Blout and Mark Williams, vice president of North American development for Best Western International, joined the former president and first lady.

“The Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel has served as a historic landmark in South Georgia for more than a century, and my commitment to the Americus community is to maintain and preserve the integrity of the hotel for future generations,” said Sharad Patel. “Our guests have an opportunity to enjoy a destination that offers the best of Southern charm that President and Mrs. Carter have come to love.”

In 2002, President Carter and his wife first stayed at the hotel in the Carter Presidential Suite, named in their honor. On their recent visit to the hotel they visited the Rosalynn Carter Tea Parlor, which was named for Mrs. Carter in 2008.

The 1892 Best Western Windsor Hotel was named after John T. Windsor, an influential Georgia businessman and philanthropist. It reopens after an extensive renovation.

The hotel’s architecture blends Victorian and Moorish influences. The hotel features a full-service restaurant, a business center and meeting space  for up to 350 people.
